10. Lipno.

A district town on the Mień river whose history dates back to the early Middle Ages, when in 1349 it was granted town privileges by Duke of Dobrzyń Władysław Garbaty (Ladislaus the Hunchback) After the destruction caused by the invasions of the Lithuanians, the Prussians and the Teutonic Knights the town privileges were renewed by King Władysław Jagiełło (Ladislaus Jagiello) in 1422. Lipno shared the fate of Rypin and the Dobrzyń Land. However it is here that sejmiks (regional councils) were organised from 1466 for the entire First Polish Republic period to appoint members of parliament. German clothiers and Jewish merchants and craftsmen settled here after the First Partition. Lipno residents proved their patriotism by participating in the January Uprising (On 3rd August 1863 a battle near the town), the Polish Military Organisation in 1916, the Citizen Guard between 1918-1919, and the Home Army during the German occupation of Poland.
